When the Strathcona Regional District was created in early 2008 all of the bylaws of the former Comox Strathcona Regional District were deemed by letters patent to continue in full force and effect until amended or repealed by the Board of Directors for the new regional district.

Bylaws are local government enactments which are passed for a number of reasons such as:

  • establishing a service
  • authorizing the imposition of rates and levies to pay for services
  • regulating persons or their property for the general public good
  • regulating processes or procedural matters related to the governance or administration within the local government
Local government bylaws are subject to similar judicial deference and review as any other legislation.
Listed below are some of the commonly requested bylaws, many of which are in a consolidated form. These versions are provided for information and research purposes only.
