Heriot Bay Sewage Collection Study

Heriot Bay Sewage Collection Study

In 2007 the Strathcona Regional District initiated a liquid waste management planning process for Heriot Bay which lead to the completion of a series of studies and the development of options for a municipal sewage collection, treatment and discharge system.

In 2008, the Strathcona Regional District commissioned a sewage collection and discharge study. The sewage collection system study area included 233 lots serving approximately 400 people within the 159 ha area.  Further work was required to develop sewage treatment options.

In March of 2010, Koers and Associates Engineering Ltd. completed a report on the costs and viability of two sewage treatment options, one for a standalone plant in Heriot Bay and a second for the connection of Heriot Bay to the Quathiaski Cove sewerage via a force main.  Each option is technically achievable but has its own set of challenges.

On June 22, 2011, an information meeting was held for those landowners within the study area.  This meeting provided a summary of the Liquid Waste Management planning process from initiation to receipt of study results.
