Job Description

The Strathcona Regional District offers endless opportunity for outdoor adventure amongst spectacular forested hills, remote inlets, island getaways and unique villages. This position is based out of the corporate office in Campbell River, BC where quality, affordable housing, advanced education opportunities, a vibrant downtown hub and a well-developed art, culture and sporting community is found.

Strathcona Regional District is presently receiving applications for the position of Environmental Services Coordinator (exempt position). The incumbent will work from the Corporate Office located in Campbell River, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with paid overtime. To reach some of the remote locations where services are offered, the incumbent will be using a combination of fleet vehicles, ferry services and water taxis.   

Reporting to senior management, the ideal candidate will have a high level of initiative, technical skill and independent judgement and is interested in having oversight for a wide range of projects and services including: water, sewer, liquid waste management, solid waste disposal, transportation, street lighting, river bank protection, wharves, flood and storm water management. Two thirds of working hours are spent on managing projects, after the incumbent wrote and evaluated requests for proposals or quotations, and assisted in creating contract agreements to appoint professionals to undertake projects. The remaining third is spent on managing and co-ordinating the delivery of the afore-mentioned services. The incumbent will be representing the regional district in various capacities, including open houses, community meetings, on-site meetings, and at the front desk.

Lifeguard Instructor
Temporary Full-time

(Approximately 6 month or until the return of the incumbent)

Under the direction of the Aquatics/Fitness Coordinator, the Lifeguard/Instructor will assist with the safe operation of water based events and programs at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.  The Lifeguard/Instructor will focus on accident prevention and provide swim and fitness instruction in a team environment.

Candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts including morning, afternoons, evenings and weekends and on an on-call basis.  Hours are determined by program registrations and special events.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Swim Instructor (WSI)
  • Current CPR C (taken within the last year)
  • Current Standard First Aid (SFA)
  • Current Aquatic Fitness certificate
  • Lifesaving Instructor Award
  • Previous experience is desirable

**Testing will be conducted as part of the recruitment process. **

The rate of pay for this position is in accordance with the United Steel Workers, Local 1-1937 collective agreement.
